TACHIKAWA NOBORI · Works
Each piece,
dyed by hand.
This is a record of the nobori (banners) and maku (curtains) produced by our workshop, which has been in operation for over 50 years.
All the items introduced here are unique pieces created entirely to order. Even with the same design, we customize the colors, text, and family crests for each request.
If you find a piece you like, please feel free to contact us as we can create a similar one for you.

The creation of a single curtain involves numerous manual processes.
Drawing the design
Based on your requests, we hand-draw the initial sketch for family crests and text, stroke by stroke.
Carving the stencil
Based on the sketch, we carve the design into shibugami (persimmon-tannin-treated paper) to create a stencil for dyeing.
Transferring to fabric
We place the stencil on the fabric and transfer the design. Colors are then layered on top.
Dyeing
Using well-worn brushes, we carefully apply color to each piece to finish it.
We will create a unique piece just for you.
We will produce items according to your requests, including size, color, text, and family crest. The estimated time from order to completion is 3-4 weeks.
